Door Decorating Contest: Read Across America

For our school's door decorating contest, the children drew pictures of where they like to read. They drew them on geckos which is our school's mascot.

Door Decorating Contest: Reading

We used the letters from a Creative Teaching Press pack from Dollar Tree. The students found their favorite book and tried to copy the cover as best they could. They came out really cute!

Buzz

This is a game I read about. I don't remember where-sorry! There are 26 letter cards and 4 Buzz cards. The cards are embellished with Carson Dellosa stickers and die cuts. One students takes the stack of flashcards. He/she names the letter, the letter sound, a word that starts with the letter, or all three. The player continues to flip through the stack until the Buzz card comes up. Then the player buzzes around the group, sits down, and passes the cards to the next player.

Pointers

These are pointers I made with dowels from Home Depot. My husband cut them in half. I then used hot glue, ribbon, googly eyes, and ink to embellish them. The students will use them for Reading the Room, reading our Morning Message and Shared Reading book, and during calendar.
