Shamrock Popcorn Word Practice.

Although this is sideways, I think you can get the idea. The students read a word and then peek behind it. There may be a coin for them to add to their piggy bank. You could change the shamrock to hearts, trees, apples, pumpkins, flowers, insects, eggs, suns, etc for any season or theme.

March Name Tree

Michele made this beautiful tree in the fall. Each month the students practice writing their name to hang on the tree. This month was shamrocks.

Shamrock Letter Writing

We have been using this center activity since February. In March we changed to shamrocks for our notecards.

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish Bulletin Board

After reading One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, the students drew fish in a fish bowl and wrote a sentence about it. They practiced writing the number word and color word.

Leprechaun, Where is your gold?

After reviewing position words, we made leprechauns and in the speech bubble wrote where the leprechaun hid the gold.

Color Sort

I saw a set of tubes similar to this in a teaching catalog for over $50. We made homemade versions with stuffing containers. The objects were found around the house and classroom. We use them for sorting or writing in our journals.

Door Decorating Contest: Reading

We used the letters from a Creative Teaching Press pack from Dollar Tree. The students found their favorite book and tried to copy the cover as best they could. They came out really cute!

Synonym Pots Of Gold

I wrote words on the pot and synonyms on gold coins. Students sort the gold coins on the appropriate pot.

Who Let The A Out?

While we sing Dr. Jean's "Who Let The A Out" song, the students come up to a pocket chart and put the letter up. I have lowercase, capitals, and pictures for initial sound.

President's Day

Michele used the overhead projector to draw the silhouettes of the students. They unscrambled the letters cut from Mickey Font to spell President and their last name. After reading a book about the president's job, they wrote about what they would do if they were president.
