Penguin Color Center
These penguins are from www.makinglearningfun.com. Once they are laminated, I will bind them into a booklet. Students will put the correct colored bow tie onto each penguin using velcro.
Madison's School Room
Madison got an American Girl school set for Christmas. We converted the landing into a classroom.
Ice Fishing Popcorn Word Center
This idea comes from www.makinglearningfun.com. I will cover a copy box with white paper and cut a hole in the top. Each fish will have a paper clip (see "it"). I will make a fishing rod with a dowel and a magnet. Students will go ice fishing and read the word on the fish they catch.
Polar Bear Color Word Center
Each polar bear is wearing a different colored scarf. Students will place the polar bear on the correct iceberg. The icebergs are from www.makinglearningfun.com.
Polar Bear Sequence cards
These adorable polar bears are from www.makinglearningfun.com. Students will put the polar bears in order from smallest to largest.
Penguin Counting Center
The students will feed the penguins fish based on the number on the penguin.
Snowman Cotton Ball Counting Center
These adorable snowmen came from www.makinglearningfun.com. They are pasted on small white bags from Sam's. I trimmed the bags to 5 inches. Students will count cotton balls to put in each numbered bag.Name Assessment
Each month, I give the students a shape to write their name on. The shapes then go up on the tree our classroom assistant made for the wall. As I take down the last month's shapes and put up the new, I can see who is making progress with writing their name.Snowman Color Word Center
Each snowman is labelled with a color word. Their are scarves and hats to match. Students dress the snowman with the correct color hat and scarf.
Hats off to a New Year
This will be a January bulletin board. The students will each choose a hat and write their name and 2010 on the hat. On a separate sheet of paper, they will write something they wish to learn in 2010.
Non Fiction/Fiction Bulletin Board
These will be the headings for our Nonfiction/Fiction Bulletin Board. Under each title will be an iceberg. As we read stories about penguins, polar bears, and snow, we will write the title of the book on a penguin, polar bear, or snowflake, and then post it on the correct iceberg. I will update once the bulletin board is up.

Thanksgiving Bulletin Board
Students told me what they were thankful for to make this paper quilt. Then we added the paper bag turkeys with pattern leaves.
Witch's Stew Halloween Counting Center
Students follow the recipe to put the ingredients into the witch's cauldron
Scarecrow Counting Center
There are twenty numbered hats. Students put a hat on the scarecrow and then add that many fabric patches on the scarecrow.
Christmas Tree Counting Center
There are twenty four trees with numbers on the stars. Students choose a tree and count out the correct number of presents to put on the tree.
Bat More/Less Center
Students spin the spinner from the Dollar Store and count out that many bats on the cave. The second student does the same. Determine who has more bats in the cave and who has less.
Fall ABC Order Leaves
Students put the foam leaves with lowercase letters in abc order. As an extra challenge, students then say the letter sound or a word that starts with each letter.Halloween Lowercase to Uppercase Match Center
Students match the ghost with the lowercase letter to the tree with the uppercase letter.
Leaf Initial Sound Center
Lowercase letters are written on half the leaves. Picures are stamped on the other half of the leaves. Students must match the picture to the initial letter.Popcorn Word Cookie Jar
Students choose a cookie to read and then put it in the cookie jar. The cookie jar is made from Paper Doll Dress Up. The cookies are made from Plantin Schoolbook.
The Scarecrow's Hat
The animals to go along with this story are from Animal Kingdom. I slimmed down the skunk to make the badger. The props are mostly things I found around the classroom. I bought the hat and sunglasses from the doll section of Michaels.
Halloween Rhyming Activities
The top activity comes from a Mailbox game. I used the cricut to cut the orange and purple circles. Students play as a memory game and match a purple picture to an orange picture to make a rhyming match.In the bottom activity, each bat has a picture on the left wing. The students find the matching word card to put on the right wing.
Leaf Counting Activity
Students use tweezers to add the correct number of pompoms to the foam leaves.
McDonald's Muffets
After reading "Little Miss Muffet" many times, the children each got a chance to act out the poem. We took photos and then they added their names to the poems.
Batty About School
We worked on bats a lot in October. We read Stellaluna and other nonfiction books about bats. We used the numbered bats to practice number sequencing.Too Cute Too Spook Bulletin Board
This bulletin board has mosaic pumpkins with the student's photographs. The bats are made from handprints, pompoms, and googly eyes.
Pizza ABC Center
Students get a plain cheese pizza with the lower case letters stamped on them. The pepperonis are stamped with pictures. Students must match the initial sound of the picture to the lowercase letter to fill their pizzas.Sunday, September 27, 2009
Apple Centers
The top center is made from apples using Doodlecharms. I simply cut them each in half and wrote a capital letter on one side and a lower case letter on the other side. The bottom center was made using My Community. I cut the tree (four to a page) in green and then the trunk in brown. I drew apples on the tree, put numbers on the trunks, laminated them and attached velcro dots to the back.
Mrs. McDonald's Dumpties
We read the nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty. One day we substitued Humpty for each child's name. That child acted out the rhyme while we read it out loud. Then students wrote their name in the rhyme, glued a picture of their head in the egg, and added detail. They came out so cute!Chicka Chicka Matching Game
The top coconut tree is from Lakeshore. It came with foam letters, but the velcro peeled off and didn't last long. I remade the letters with Mickey Font and laminated them. I laminated them and used velcro on the back. The students can read the story and add or take away the letters to act it out.
The bottom coconut tree was made with Doodlecharms and the fit to page feature. I shadowed it as well. Then I made the lower case letters go around the tree. I wrote uppercase letters on the clothespins. Students reach in to get a clothespin and attach it to the coconut tree on the lowercase letter.
Brown Bear
I made each character from the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear by Bill Martin. I used Animal Kingdom for all the animals. I used Paper Dolls for the Teacher. I outlined each animal with marker and then laminated them.
